Basic Coaching Skills for Therapists and Health Professionals
- 8.45am–4.30pm, 28 October 2010
- Hilton East Midlands Airport Hotel, Castle Donnington, Derby
This training day was fully booked and we had some fabulous feedback. Coaching is a powerful approach to working with individuals and groups. It enables people to work towards what they want rather than what they don’t want. It is being fast recognised as the “missing link” in helping people to change health beliefs, raise self efficacy and develop sustainable plans. The day was aimed at independent practitioners who wanted to explore coaching and consider using it as part of their professional “tool kit”. It aimed and fulfilled it's criteria to provide some practical tools, hands-on practice and personal experience of coaching. It showed how coaching not only benefits our clients, but also supports our own personal and business development. Of the 15 people who attended 8 felt the course content was excellent, 5 good and 1 satisfactory. Of our lovely speaker Jen, (Ed. we all loved your wings Jen!!!) 11 people thought she was an excellent speaker, 2 felt she was good and 1 satisfactory. With regard to the opportunity to network: 4 felt the day to be excellent, 5 good, 3 satisfactory and 1 felt time to be poor because they would have liked more times during breaks. Actually the breaks were not as long as usual during this course, as most folk wanted to get 'stuck in' or 'carry on' with the practical sessions.
Course outcomes
It is intended that at the conclusion of the programme the independent practitioner will have:
- Identified and understood the fundamental processes involved in coaching including opportunity to practice some coaching tools, and have experience of being coached
- Understood the barriers to coaching
- Explored possible applications of coaching
