About Therapy Learning

Therapy Learning is run by two Independent Occupational Therapists, Vivienne Chamberlain and Trisha Nutter. We have strong feelings about what is required to make a training course an enjoyable and worthwhile experience – from the initial details received, to reasonable costs, comfortable surroundings and, of course, the actual quality of the training.

Viv and Trish have over 44 years of therapy experience between them and have attended many training courses during that time!  We now have a feel for what is required to provide a quality learning environment. As independent therapists we understand what business/CPD courses will enable you to step forth in your business with confidence and help enhance your CPD portfolio.

Vivienne Chamberlain

Vivienne Chamberlain

Qualified in 1992. Specialised in paediatrics working in: NHS to 1997; a Jewish charity until 1999 and then until mid 2001 in a Disabled Children’s Team. Became fully self-employed at the end of 2001. Following a complete career change in 2005, I now work as an OT consultant for a Housing Association. When working in paediatrics I specialised in learning disabilities. Now I am on my next learning curve in providing access to homes for all ages. 2010 was a lovely year for a number of reasons but primarily because Phil and I got married in August - a very happy day! Plus, I discovered that I have Lindy Hop (jive dancing) classes nearby - I last Lindy Hopped over 12 years ago and I am gradually remembering the steps - just need to make more classes!

Qualified in 1982. Specialised in Paediatrics straight away. Worked in NHS until end of 2004. In 2001 started working independently part-time but is now fully self-employed. Over the years I have worked in many areas of children’s Occupational Therapy, becoming responsible for different areas in different posts. My independent practice is split between working with children with DCD and children who have Acquired Brain Injury. I am on the committee of our local Dyspraxia Foundation group and have carried out some parent education. I have three children of my own who make life very full.

What is occupational therapy?

Occupational therapy is the assessment and treatment of physical and psychiatric conditions using specific, purposeful activity to prevent disability and promote independent function in all aspects of daily life. (From NHS Careers)

[After] considering a client’s own views carefully, OTs assess the client’s abilities to perform activities and design treatment programmes to increase their capability to tackle difficulties. Treatment programmes vary greatly according to individual needs and often involve environmental modifications. OTs then evaluate progress and suggest any necessary changes to the treatment programme.
