What a fantastic conference - you should both be really proud of your work. It was an excellent event. Well done

Welcome to the Therapy Learning website.

Therapy Learning runs training courses specifically for independent practitioners, focusing on business and CPD requirements. We arrange training packages that we feel to be of benefit to all practitioners. Top quality trainers will be sought for each different topic. Courses will mainly be held in venues in mid-England to offer a central venue to as many people as possible. However we will respond to requests to take courses to other locations should there be enough demand. We will always seek the best accommodation deals with the hotel venues. We aim to provide star quality learning by therapists for therapists. Please click on any of the purple headings for more information.

Therapy Learning provides professionals with spacious and comfortable environments conducive to learning. Training will always be of a high standard with top quality speakers. We believe that networking is as important as the training. We pay attention to every detail.

We aim to help delegates meet the following HPC standards:

  • ‘Can anybody hear me?’ Better listening in independent practice.

The beauty of independent practice is having the time to spend with individual clients to be able to listen to them in depth. You might be the first person that really listens to the client, and doing so is invaluable when considering how best to help. But how able do you feel to encourage your clients to open up so that you can explore their needs fully? What are the important cues and signals to listen for? How can you respond to a client's tears so that they feel understood but are not left in pieces when you leave? This training day will help you to build on existing skills as well as developing new techniques for listening more effectively. It is a practical, enjoyable, inspiring and active day that aims to give you a variety of helpful listening skills to add to your toolbox. Stand out from the crowd and maximise your potential as an independent practitioner by learning to listen better.

  • Manual Handling Refresher Course

This day is for all independent practitioners to update their knowledge on moving and handling both clients and equipment. The course will incorporate both theory and practical elements. As a therapist you will get a chance to update your knowledge on high risk moves, care handling versus therapeutic handling and have hands on practice with equipment you use in your work settings. Why should you attend an update? As either a sole trader, employer or employee it is your responsibility under the health and safety at work act 1974; management of health and safety at work regulations 1999 and manual handling operations regulations 1992, to make use of appropriate equipment provided in accordance with training and make ongoing individual risk assessments. This course will provide you with an update in both the current theory and hands on experience of moving and handling. This course is practical and interactive with time to practice hands on and build up confidence; the trainer being approachable and non-judgemental, with no question too simple or obvious.

30 April 2010, Disabilities Living Centre, Nottingham
